Jennifer Humes, Exclusive Family Law Executive Paralegal

But for a brief stint in Los Angeles, I have enjoyed the privilege of calling Nevada my home. After graduating from Reno High School, I attended UNR and received a bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice. The field of law has always interested me, so I applied to the UCLA Extension Paralegal Program, from which I graduated with honors, and began to work at the California Department of Corporations. I missed the Reno/Tahoe area, so returned and accepted a job with the Washoe County District Attorney’s Office.

Since leaving the DA’s office, I have worked for only three civil law firms, one of which was also involved in political lobbying. My 25-plus years of experience in the legal field have been diverse, and have prepared me to seek, accept and succeed at new challenges. I spent several years at an insurance defense firm, with a group of skillful attorneys, working on a varied and challenging case load, which I really enjoyed. But at the end of the day, I felt as though something was missing. I wanted my work to be more meaningful by helping people directly.

When not at soccer games, music performances or cheer competitions with mytwo active and amazing teenage children who keep me busy, grounded and feeling young :), I love to hike with my two rescue dogs, play softball, ski, ride dirt bikes, and have recently taken up the “relaxing” game of golf. As a parent, classroom volunteer and member of the Board of a local PTA, I have become acutely aware of the challenges facing children in our community, to include the added loss of significant input and impact from fathers in their kids’ day-to-day lives, due to separation of parents.

I am grateful to be a part of this team's effort toward improving the circumstances and chances for kids and, by extension, families, to succeed, and to help level the playing field for men in family court matters. When I was offered the chance to join Marilyn’s team, I knew it was the perfect opportunity for me to utilize my passion, strengths and skills to help people on a more personal level in matters that affect their daily lives. I have found tremendous satisfaction in that; however, even more so, I have come to know an incredible, powerful, compassionate, generous and brilliant group of women, that I am honored to work with.
